HILLTOP LEGACY brand ambassador BJORN ALEXANDER recalls he’s Paris Marathon experience …
Paris is a beauty!!
Flying in and seeing the Eiffel Tower made me as excited as a kid getting sweeties! I was in absolute awe at their airport and quick servicing, then to be received like a celebrity by the Disfruta Sports team was a sign of good things coming.
I knew the Expo is gonna be epic, with Asics being the sponsor of the Paris marathon. They didn’t disappoint, as the expo was filled with tons of things you want to buy with money you don’t have.
This expo had experts giving advise on products to help improve performances, BUT my favourite was the Runners Wall. This wall had the names of ALL 57 000 athletes participating and the South African bunch went running around and taking pics with our names.
On race day I woke in awe of the privilege of running for a charity and representing team ASICS. This marathon was dedicated to raising funds for Hilltop Legacy, an NGO working to set up an After-School-Care program that will help kids from disadvantaged communities.
The group of Disfruta athletes all lined up in aid of Hilltop Legacy and the “GEES” amongst the group have been absolutely amazing.
Entering the race injured I knew it’s going to be a bit of a struggle, but one thing that made Paris marathon great was definitely the encouraging supporters all the way of the race.
The scenic views and historical buildings made up for the painful experience of running injured and cramping.
Spectators you don’t know would be cheering your name that’s on your running bib, while several fuel stations, music groups and the reminder of hard work done kept me going and finished in 3 hours 22 mins. This was 34mins shy of the goal, but finishing was the achievement of the day and receiving the finisher t-shirt after crossing the line was worth all the pain.
This is a definite, must go experience for any runner and cannot wait for the Berlin marathon 2017!
