MAURITIUS TOUR BEACHCOMBER
The MTB Mauritius Tour Beachcomber is a unique mountain bike stage race by the leading Mauritian hospitality group, Beachcomber, and its expert partners. It creates an unparalleled opportunity to get the best vibes of Mauritius while riding across wild and very varied terrain, from mountains, forests, sugar cane and tea fields to beaches and atop cliffs.
The third edition of the Mauritius Tour Beachcomber (MTB) will be held from May 17-19, 2018. The competition will yet again beckon mountain bikers in the very depth of a vast playing field loaded with challenges, discovery and breath-taking sceneries. The Beachcomber touch promises a dreamlike experience at each pedal stroke on unique trails, an experience where participants will expend their energy while contemplating the ocean from afar.
Mauritius is more than an upmarket beach destination. Those who turned their gaze inland, were enthralled by its beauty. Who would have thought a few years ago, that a territory of 1865 square kilometres and 828 meters high, could hide an ultra-trail of 120 kilometres and unveil to the most courageous explorers, over 4500 meters of ascent right in the middle of diverse and rugged landscapes.
The third edition promises to be more spectacular. It confirms the innate potential of picturesque Mauritius to combine physical effort and the quest for authenticity in the most secret and isolated places.
STAGE 1 – 65KM :: VICTORIA – PITON DU MILEU – SHANDRANI
Rich in sensations, the competition will start at 08:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 17th, 2018, at Victoria Beachcomber, Pointe-aux-Piments. The bikers will set off from the north-western coast to rally the Shandrani Beachcomber on the south-east coast.
The race will take place in the sugarcane fields. From Balaclava to Solitude and Arsenal, then along the fields running parallel to the motorway of Terre Rouge/Verdun, the bikers will race until Les Mariannes, renowned for its pineapple plantations and its splendid view on the northern islands.
This is where the topography will change. During the race in Camp Thorel forest, Quartier Militaire up until Valetta, the land is indeed more rocky, downhill and technical. Upon reaching the small village of Valetta, the bikers will once again hit the sugarcane fields
They will discover Piton du Milieu, the lush vegetation of Chemin Français, Le Val, before riding along the river at Riche-en-Eau. Once they have passed the airport, they will race towards the finishing line at Shandrani Beachcomber.
STAGE 2 – 40KM :: SHANDRANI – TROIS BOUTIQUES – SHANDRANI
The second stage of the MTB will have a southern feel, starting on Friday, May 18th, 2018, at 07:30 a.m. at Shandrani Beachcomber. From the villages of Trois Boutiques to Plaine Magnien passing by the Stone Pyramids, the bikers will then make their way to Riche-en-Eau before reaching Shandrani Beachcomber.
